Its nice to see Rangers getting a place in PvE more.

But I think its incredibly funny when the Warriors come to Tombs and spam all chat with "Why nobody want warrior no more?" I take a screenshot of every warrior that does it. Its become very amusing to me. They can farm everything in the world, and then nobody wants them in ONE place and they cry about it...

I'm also very happy that my Blood Necro isn't constantly a Battery anymore. He's expanding his builds to Battery or Orders now...its not much, but its a start.

After playing GW for well over a half year now, this post points out something that really makes me sick about this game, and makes me want to only play with friends groups or henchies and not unknown PUGs.

Ooooh, great, a ranger is now finally wanted again, because of a special "trick" party build, this barrage/pet build. And so what? If I want to take my ranger out to FOW or Tombs UW, I now have to follow this build and go out with a certain team composition, or I don't get invited! And if I want to do something else with my ranger build, or want to go out as ranger with a more balanced group, or want to go out with my Mesmer, for example, I can just forget about getting into a group!

When I play with various friends, we always seem to have a fairly balanced group. Usually there is at least one ranger, at least one mesmer, maybe an elementalist, usually two monks, at most 2 warriors (but often only 1) and usually a necro. And we really don't care what build each of the characters take, within reason (ok, the monks need to heal and protect). And we have more fun doing UW, FOW, SF and Tombs UW in these groups than I ever have had as trapper ranger in UW or b/p ranger in Tombs UW.

What I am saying is, its this polarization that irks me, where almost every group being formed these days seems to be one of these specialized parties. Geez, just go out and form some balanced parties and have some fun with it!

While it is irritating to see groups so polarized and inflexible in certain runs (UW trappers, Oro farming, Tombs, etc) or PvP play (IWAY, etc) it does allow for disparate people that don't know each other to build a group that is a known build, much like a guild forming a specific build to do GvG. As long as everyone does their roles as expected, the team can succeed.

Can it fail? Sure, happens all the time, especially when people quit becuase they died, or the team as a whole ran into problems (that normally can be surmounted). Nothing you can do to change that behavior. But chances are that particular team will succeed over a "balanced" group whose roles aren't so specifically defined. That's just reality.

So, as always, you have a choice. You can form your own group, and play in that way. You can utilize your friends list, or join a guild that does a lot of PvE farming runs.

I also get amused when folks running a particlar profession bemoan the fact they can't join groups in particular areas. Mesmers probably feel the most left out, luckily there isn't that many anyway (tail wagging the dog?). The answer? Make a character that is popular (I'd suggest a necro MM as that particular character can be used just about anywhere) and play. You'll get into groups, everyone is happy, and you'll have fun playing a role that doe a bunch of killing (if you're good at it).

In short, you only have blame for yourself if you selfishly demand that others accept you and your profession in the game. It may be conformist, but that's life.

I dunno about the first post.... in my experience, Rangers are always welcome in a group. Wait, lemme re-phrase that, "good" and "experienced" players will always welcome a Ranger in a group. I said good and exp players 'cause only them will know what good a Ranger can do for the group. The skills of a good Ranger is very complex. They wouldn't call the Rangers "the jack of all trades" for nothing.

Default Mesmer a noob?????????????????

I saw earlier in this thread that someone called a Mesmer a noob just for being one. WTF???? Mesmers are definitely not noobs and can help in any group. Actually you should always have a mesmer in your grp. Mesmers can devistate monsters, go in and tank it up with illusionary weapon (30 dmg every hit with a candy cane can humble just about anything). Besides that dom mesmers are a casters nightmare, you have 2 choices against them cast and kill urself or sit there and do nothing. The fastest way to get through thirsty river is put 2 dom mesmers in ur grp, trust me the grp of 3 legions go down in 6 minutes every time. You will make it through with only 1 dom mesmer as well, just 2 of them you will definitely rule. So I say to anyone who says dont accept them they are a mesmer, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB!!!!!!! That is the person you should kick. 1 more point, mesmers are excellent at energy management. Me/n with ss = ass whoopin

Actually, I think the post in this thread was meant as a tongue-in-cheek parody of what really goes on in-game. And for the record, I HAVE been called useless and a noob for being a mesmer while playing in-game, as well as over Vent and TS.

Anyway, that's totally offtopic, and there's already a bazillion threads on mesmer mistreatment.

Most recent experience - forming a B/P group and as we enter I notice we're short one pet... No worries, its not a deal breaker.

Little later on I notice one of the wurms is poisoned and neither necro has been running Death Nova... hmmm

Not 30 secs later one ranger chats "I'm using Poison Arrow on _____"

So we finish that battle and I ask the guy if he brought a pet - Nope. So I ask him what he thought B/P meant... "Bring Poison"......

And eventually as you play mesmer through all their crap you become calous and cold. :P Though ya it was a parody of most in game moments where mesmers are involved... especially non domination ones.

I had groups missing pets and I have seen poison also. I think it is quite funny and don't get to mad unless they cause us to lose.

I never meant to say it was really hard to find a group, but sometimes it just takes a while if you dont feel like doing traps.

On another note I finished the run agian and got another ecto and 2 worthless greens.

As a person who enjoys my mesmer I can tell that you are greatly confused and probably play a warrior.

Gah!

I enjoy playing a degen/interupt build most of the time, works great for fow, but its hard to get people to understand how I'm useful. I haven't tried b/p ranger yet and I don't think that I will. I do trap in UW, but the drops usually suck.

You're about as wrong as you can be on both counts. I actually play six different characters (all having completed the game), with ranger probably being my favorite. But I also have a mesmer, enjoy playing it in both pvp and pve, and know how they are treated by most PUGs in game.

YOU quite obviously didn't read my post very well. At no point did I state A) I hate mesmers B) think mesmers suck or C) don't allow them into parties because of A and B. I simply said there isn't a lot of them in game. At what point did I stutter?

I enjoy EVERY profession, for different reasons. The one I LEAST play is the warrior, since most districts have an overabundance of them. I play whatever role the PARTY needs, not just what *I* want to play. I'm one of those "unselfish" players that puts the needs of the many over my own self interest.

Go figure.

I may be guilty of this, but it is my opinion that people who play mesmer... well not everyone but a large majority, think that they get some special right to complain or whine about not being useful but being so strong/capable.
